On the island of Crete we have built the first European Resort Offices. Senior managers, executives as well as any other knowledge based users are able to work in the relaxed atmosphere and warmth of our holiday island with plenty of computer terminals to plug into and access their bases back home.

In the same campus with the Science & Technology Park of Crete (STEP-C) and the Institute of Computer Sciences (ICS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), 6 km from the international airport of Heraklion, Crete Resort Offices (CROs) provide the perfect setting for a constructive and pleasant working environment. A local area network (LAN) utilizing a 100 Mbps fiber optic lines system is currently connected with major European and worldwide communication networks (EARN, BITNET, etc.) providing excellent e-mail and teleworking facilities.

Resort Offices as attractive as they may be, they need to prove that they can make a positive contribution to tomorrow's society structure. The impact of modern communications technology on psychological, sociological and urbanization problems must be evaluated and Resort Offices may be the test-bed for useful analyses.

Scaling up our operation, we have plans for the utilization to part of the 180 acres former US base on Crete in Gouves. Our intention is to combine Teleworking Resort Offices activities with the pleasant living environment of a resort location on the north coast of the island. The location will be operating all year round and has a housing capacity for up to 200 families. New forms of tourism will thus be introduced and a contribution to the extension of the tourism period for Crete will be made.
